At the weekend I visited Salts Mill In
Soltaire. I had gone in search of some Hockney pictures. Salts Mill houses one of the largest collections of Hockney's art.Salts Mill was a grand textile mill. It was built by Titus Salts and opened in 1853, it was the biggest factory in the world at the time, 3000 workers produced 30,000 yards of cloth every day. Titus had a vision of industrial utopia he not only built the mill but the surrounding village of soltaire with churches and schools.
David Hockney's friend Johnathan Silver purchased the mill in1987 and made
the mill into what it is today unfortunately he died in 1997 aged 47. If you want to find out more go to www.saltsmill.org.ukI had wanted to go and see David Hockney's exhibition at the Royal Academy London but will not be able to get to see it. The exhibition is showing his New lanscape works inspired by the east Yorkshire landscapes. It Looks fantastic take a peak at www.royalacademy.org.uk.
Instead I had a lovely day at salts mill and shared lunch with the ducks down by the canal by the mill.
I also bought some fabulous vintage fabric from a shop in Soltaire called Ivy and Co on Victoria Road a good day all round.
